A recent data breach at payment gateway provider Slim CD has compromised the sensitive financial information of nearly 1.7 million individuals. The breach allowed hackers to access the company’s network for almost a year, stealing credit card details between June 14 and 15, 2024.
Exposed data includes full names, physical addresses, credit card numbers, and expiration dates, but CVVs (card verification numbers) were not stolen. While this reduces the risk of fraudulent transactions, there is still a possibility of credit card fraud.
As Slim CD is not offering free identity theft protection or credit monitoring to affected individuals, it’s essential for those impacted to take proactive steps to protect themselves. This includes:
* Reaching out to your bank or credit card provider to request a replacement card
* Monitoring all financial accounts for signs of fraud and reporting any suspicious activity to your bank immediately
Slim CD has implemented additional security measures and reported the incident to federal law enforcement and regulatory authorities. While data breaches are becoming increasingly common, it’s crucial for individuals to take control of their financial information and stay vigilant against potential threats.
