Phishing attacks have become a widespread issue affecting nearly a quarter of smartphone owners worldwide. A recent survey by Omdia found that about 24% of smartphone users have been deceived at least once by fraudulent texts, emails, or phone calls. This surpasses other security threats such as malware and viruses, which affected around 15% of respondents.
The study, which polled over 1,500 consumers in Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Oceania, revealed that physical device theft was the third most common security issue, affecting about 12% of those surveyed. The survey highlights the importance of being vigilant when receiving unsolicited messages or calls on one’s smartphone.
The findings suggest that phishing attacks pose a significant threat to mobile users, emphasizing the need for education and awareness about online safety practices to prevent falling victim to such scams.
