10 Apps Replaced by Google Wallet’s Simplified Payments System

I moved to Toronto this year, a city that can be overwhelming, especially for someone like me who’s an app hoarder. My Android phone was cluttered with dedicated apps for everything from banking to gym check-ins. But then Google Wallet snuck in and consolidated passes, cards, and payments into one seamless hub. This upgrade has streamlined my routine and decluttered my phone.

I no longer need separate apps for:

Banking: I can now handle contactless payments directly from linked debit and credit cards with Google Wallet’s security features.
Transit: The Presto app is gone, replaced by the digital version of my transit card in Google Wallet.
Airlines and loyalty programs: My Aeroplan card and Air Canada miles tracking are all in one place in Google Wallet.
Driver’s license: I can use my digital ID for quick verifications or age checks.
Health insurance: I store my medical insurance details with me, saving hassle and money.
Gym membership: I no longer need a separate app from the gym to manage check-ins and payments.
Costco: I’ve eliminated the Costco app and now access my membership directly in Google Wallet.
Networking: I can connect with people on LinkedIn without needing an additional app.
Coffee stores: Tim Hortons points tracking is now done via Google Wallet.
Groceries: The PC Optimum app’s offers and redemptions are tracked seamlessly within Google Wallet.

Google Wallet has made almost a dozen apps redundant, adding speed, security, and convenience to my life. Its evolution will likely replace even more apps on my phone in the future.
