Millions of devotees gathered at the Triveni Sangam on Tuesday morning, marking the first ‘Amrit Snan’ (sacred bath) of the Maha Kumbh 2025. The event, held once every 12 years, is expected to bring over 40 crore people to Prayagraj, making it the largest gathering of humanity in the world.
The sacred waters are believed to wash away sins and grant spiritual enlightenment. Devotees from all over the world participated in the first ‘Amrit Snan’, blending into the devotional ambience. They sang bhajans, including “Om Jai Jagdish Hare” and “Mahishasura Mardini Stotram”.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared pictures on social media, calling it the “living form of our eternal culture and faith”. The event is expected to generate an estimated Rs 2 lakh crore, with each visitor spending an average of Rs 5,000.
Seers and sadhus from different Akhadas participated in the event, adding color to the mega gathering. Foreign devotees also joined in, marking a significant global presence at the event.
As the world’s largest religious gathering began on Monday, millions reached Prayagraj to take a holy dip in the Ganga river. The procession of Niranjani Akhada heads towards Triveni Sangam for the first ‘Amrit Snan’.
