A mysterious egg heist in Pennsylvania has left police scrambling to find the culprit. On Saturday, a trailer carrying 100,000 eggs from Pete & Gerry’s Organics was targeted and thieves made off with the entire load.
The theft, worth around $40,000, has raised concerns about the impact on Easter celebrations. With bird flu forcing farmers to slaughter millions of chickens, egg prices have skyrocketed. The average price per dozen eggs nationwide is now over $4, eclipsing a record set two years ago.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and help solve the case. Trooper Megan Frazer says that while this is an unusual crime, her team is working hard to crack it. “We’re relying on leads from the community,” she said.
As Easter approaches, egg prices show no signs of relief, with predictions of a 20% increase this year. The stolen eggs were meant for Pete & Gerry’s Organics’ distribution channels and are valued at around $40,000, making it a serious felony case.
