10:10 Games, the developer behind Funko Fusion, has faced criticism after recent layoffs that many believe were avoidable. According to multiple sources who spoke under anonymity, staff found out about the planned layoffs in mid-January and were told 19 jobs would be at risk.
The company initially assured those being let go that they would receive “full support” during the transition process, including help finding new employment. However, Insider Gaming has learned that this promise has yet to materialize.
Some employees who were informed of their departure while on holiday – a practice encouraged by the company – were still expected to attend consultation meetings at scheduled times, even if they were abroad in different time zones. One source described management’s approach as “keen to wrap up the process quickly” without considering employee feedback or suggestions.
Those laid off received what one called the “bare legal minimum” severance package, including notice periods and payment for unused holiday time. Many believe the company knew about the layoffs ahead of time but wanted to avoid paying out accrued holiday time after the fact.
The reason behind the layoffs is attributed to Funko Fusion’s poor performance, which led to a lack of funding for future projects. Staff were told that layoffs were based on the needs of the next project, although some believe this has not been fully designed yet. Senior-level and upper-management staff were not impacted by the layoffs.
Studio heads Paul Flanagan and Arthur Parsons initially stated they would take responsibility for the layoffs when they became public, but the company is now handling public inquiries through a different firm without releasing an official statement on the matter. Insider Gaming has sought comment from 10:10 Games, but none has been received yet.
