1047 Games Lays Off Staff Amid Splitgate 2 Struggles

Splitgate 2 developer 1047 Games has confirmed an undisclosed number of layoffs, with co-founders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian opting not to take salaries as they try to revamp the game. The free-to-play shooter launched under a cloud after sparking controversy during its Summer Game Fest launch.

The studio faced criticism for its microtransaction bundle and performance issues, which led to a significantly lower peak concurrent player count of 10,059 on Steam, compared to Splitgate’s 67,724. Despite this, the game has attracted over 2.5 million players.

In an interview with IGN shortly after launch, co-founder Ian Proulx expressed surprise at the reaction and admitted that they didn’t intend for it to be as controversial as it was. The studio aims to improve the gameplay experience based on community feedback and redirect resources to deliver a better game for its players.

The layoffs come as the studio continues to work hard to deliver more content, with a commitment to building the game for the long haul. Co-founders Proulx and Bagamian’s decision not to take salaries is seen as part of their efforts to turn things around.
