12-Year-Old Little Leaguer’s Suspension Lifted for Bat Flip

A 12-year-old baseball player from New Jersey will get to play in Thursday night’s game after his suspension was lifted by a judge. Marco Rocco, a member of the Haddonfield team, was ejected and suspended after he flipped his bat into the air after hitting a game-winning home run in their first state tournament game on July 16.

The family had sought an emergency temporary restraining order to allow Marco to play, which the judge granted hours before the scheduled game. The decision came despite the fact that Little League Baseball posts videos of similar celebrations on social media without punishment.

In prior games, Marco had tossed his bat in celebration without warnings or punishment, according to court documents. This case drew attention to inconsistencies between Little League’s rules and how they are enforced in practice.
