127 Years of Snowfall in North Texas Revealed

For over a century, North Texas has witnessed significant snow events that have shaped the region’s weather history. According to data from the National Weather Service, snowfall amounts vary greatly from year to year, ranging from light snowfalls to heavy accumulations and even years with no snow at all.

The data collected by the NWS provides insight into the unpredictable nature of snowfall in North Texas. “There is no guarantee that we will see snow one year, and it will depend on the forecast and conditions of that specific year,” said Alliston Prater, a meteorologist with the NWS in Fort Worth.

This understanding has helped authorities identify the impact of snow on infrastructure development and adaptation. By examining the data, officials have developed strategies to prioritize grid hardening, winterizing facilities, diversifying energy sources, and enhancing emergency preparedness plans across cities and government levels.
