14 Arrested Over Anti-Migrant Riots in Southern Spain

Anti-migrant riots broke out in southern Spain’s Torre Pacheco town after a video circulated on social media, fueling tensions against people of North African origin. Fourteen people have been arrested, including three suspects who attacked a pensioner, 68-year-old Domingo Tomás Domínguez.

The unrest began with calls to find and attack the perpetrators from an extreme-right group, “Deport Them Now”, which called for attacks on people of North African origin. Police presence has been increased with over 130 officers deployed in the area. Three of those arrested are of Moroccan origin and were not residents of Torre Pacheco.

The motive for the attack remains unclear, but authorities attribute the violence to anti-immigration rhetoric from far-right groups like Vox. The group’s leader, Santiago Abascal, denied responsibility but blamed “mass immigration” policies for allowing the perpetrators to enter Spain.
