Aldi has announced plans to open 17 new locations across nine states, including three in Florida. The discount grocery store chain finalized its purchase of Southeastern Grocers, which includes Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket, in March, with an ambitious plan to add 800 stores nationwide over the next five years.
The company expects to convert around 50 stores by the end of the year, with most reopening in 2025. So far, Aldi has confirmed three new locations: two in Bay County and one in Port St. Lucie.
Aldi’s business model differs from Winn-Dixie, which offers a wider range of services including a meat counter, deli, pharmacy, bakery, and liquor store. Aldi, on the other hand, focuses on keeping prices low by offering a smaller selection with few duplicates of branded items, fewer open hours, and no elaborate displays or overhead music.
Aldi has verified three new locations in Florida: two in Bay County and one in Port St. Lucie. The company has already converted some Winn-Dixie stores to Aldi locations, including those in Panama City, Deltona, Pensacola, and Lakeland. Customers have received advanced notice that the Winn-Dixie associates were working at these stores were closing in late August.
As part of its expansion plans, Aldi is opening new stores and converting existing Winn-Dixie locations into Aldis. The company expects to continue its growth strategy, with most stores reopening in 2025.
