A bomb disposal squad has uncovered 176 World War II-era bombs at Scotts Park in Wooler, Northumberland, England. The discovery was made during construction work on the park’s expansion project.
According to reports, construction workers found a “metallic object” during excavation and notified police. A team from Catterick Barracks confirmed it was a training device, but not live ammunition. However, some bombs were found still containing charges, posing a risk of explosion.
The Ministry of Defense conducted a full site survey and discovered 65 initial bombs weighing around 10 pounds each. Further investigation led to the discovery of another 90 bombs in the area. The total number of explosives has now reached 156.
Northumbria Police confirmed that there is no wider threat to the public, but the situation remains hazardous until all bombs are safely removed. Construction work on the park’s expansion project was halted temporarily while the investigation unfolded.
