Authorities in St. Kitts and Nevis are investigating the death of at least 19 people found drifting at sea off the island’s coast. A fishing vessel, believed to have originated from West Africa, was discovered on Wednesday with decomposed human remains. The boat was partially submerged, prompting a response from the St. Kitts and Nevis Coast Guard.
Police Commissioner James Sutton said officials are working to identify the victims and determine their exact number, but advanced decomposition is making it challenging. This is the first such discovery in recent memory in the twin-island nation.
