The 2024 season has come to an end for many young tennis players, but Indian-American player Nishesh Basavareddy is still making waves. At just 19 years old, Basavareddy finished the year ranked a career-high No. 138 in the ATP Rankings and won two ATP Challenger Tour titles.
Basavareddy will be competing in the NextGen ATP Finals, an event that brings together eight top 20-and-under players from around the world. He will face off against compatriot Alex Michelsen in his second match on Wednesday.
The American player is part of Group Red alongside Shang Juncheng of China and Luca Van Assche of France. The group’s top two players will qualify for the knockout semifinals, where Basavareddy hopes to make a strong impression.
Basavareddy has already had a impressive year, including reaching the finals of three ATP Challenger Tour events since September. He is also set to make his Grand Slam debut at next month’s Australian Open, having won the USTA Australian Open Wild Card Challenge and gaining experience by practicing with top players in Turin last year.
The NextGen ATP Finals will run from December 18-22, with Basavareddy looking forward to doing his best and further improving his ranking.
