1999 Japan Book Sparks Flight Cancellations Due to Disasters Prophecy

A 1999 manga book that predicts major disasters in Japan has led to the cancellation of several flights from Hong Kong. The book, “Watashi ga mita mirai” (The future I saw), was written by manga artist Ryo Tatsuki and describes her prophetic dreams of a disaster hitting Japan in July.

Following the release of the new edition in 2021, online videos and social media have spread warnings of disasters striking Japan, causing many Hong Kongers to cancel their trips. The airline company Greater Bay Airlines has reduced its flights to Sendai and Tokushima due to declining demand.

The author of the book emphasizes that her messages are not intended to cause anxiety but rather encourage people to take action on disaster prevention. However, experts warn against spreading unverified information and instead advise people to “fact-check” and maintain a normal lifestyle while preparing for disasters.

In 2011, Japan experienced devastating earthquakes and tsunamis, sparking speculation about whether the events were predicted in Tatsuki’s book. The book has sold over 960,000 copies worldwide, with some versions selling for hundreds of dollars online.
