A tragic car crash in Fresno has claimed the lives of a 28-year-old mother, Samantha Kellogg, and her 2-year-old daughter, Elena Kellogg. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when a Honda Civic failed to stop at a posted stop sign and collided with a Chevrolet Tahoe traveling eastbound on Jefferson Avenue.
The collision happened around 10:15 am, resulting in both vehicles overturning. The Tahoe’s occupants, two juveniles aged 17 and 16, sustained minor injuries but were wearing seat belts and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Samantha Kellogg was not restrained and died at the scene, while Elena was transported to Community Regional Medical Center but later succumbed to her injuries. Authorities have confirmed there was no child safety seat in the vehicle, highlighting the importance of proper restraint systems.
The CHP has stated that impairment is not suspected, but toxicology results are pending further investigation. The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of safe driving and adherence to traffic rules.
