2025 Costume Designers Guild Awards Winners Announced

The 27th Costume Designers Guild Awards took place Thursday night at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles, honoring outstanding costume design in film and television. Nosferatu’s Linda Muir won Excellence in Period Film, while Wicked’s Paul Tazewell took home the Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film prize. Conclave’s Lisy Christl received the Contemporary Film award. All three winners are also nominated for Best Costume Design at the 97th Academy Awards.

The guild’s awards show has consistently recognized period films, with only a few exceptions in recent years. Last year’s winner Poor Things continued this trend, snatching the Oscar after winning the CDG prize. Shōgun took home two prizes, including Period Television and Costume Illustration.

Other winners included Dune: Prophecy for Sci-Fi/Fantasy Television, Hacks for Contemporary Television, and The Masked Singer for Variety, Reality-Competition, Live Television. Beyoncé’s Verizon commercial “Can’t Be Broken” won the Short Form Design award.

The ceremony also honored Van Smith with an induction into the CDG’s Edith Head Hall of Fame, while Janelle Monáe received the Vanguard Spotlight Award and Zoe Saldaña was presented with a 2025 Spotlight Award. The Costume Designers Guild teamed up with other IATSE locals to support those affected by devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, with an online auction featuring rare collectibles to benefit the IATSE Emergency Relief Fund.
