2025 NFL Draft Quarterback Class Compared to 2024’s Elite Group

The discussion surrounding this year’s quarterback class has been muted compared to the historic 2024 draft, where six quarterbacks were selected in the first 12 picks. However, analysts Todd McShay and Matt Waldman have weighed in with their rankings.

Todd McShay ranks quarterbacks into six tiers: Elite, Immediate Impact, Immediate Contributor, Plus Future Starter, Solid Future Starter, and Adequate to Solid NFL Starter.

McShay’s top tier includes Caleb Williams (96 overall grade), Jayden Daniels (96), and Drake Maye (95). He also lists J.J. McCarthy, Cam Ward, as top prospects in the Immediate Impact tier. Michael Penix, Bo Nix, Shedeur Sanders, and Jaxson Dart round out this group.

Waldman’s rankings, which include the 2023 class, provide a different perspective on the quarterbacks. Caleb Williams, Michael Penix Jr., and Cam Ward are among Waldman’s top prospects. The two analysts’ differing opinions highlight the subjectivity of quarterback evaluations.

Interestingly, neither analyst ranks any quarterback as a Solid Future Starter. This suggests that while there are talented quarterbacks in this class, they may not have the same level of immediate impact as some of their predecessors.
