2025 NFL QB Draft Class Projections: Surprising Contenders Emerge

The 2024 NFL offseason saw multiple teams address quarterback vacancies before the draft, leaving some teams still in need of a quarterback on draft day. However, the 2025 quarterback class is looking different this year.

QBASE 2.0 projections, which combine college passing statistics and rushing ability, suggest that top prospect Cam Ward might not be as highly regarded as last year’s Heisman winners Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels. Ward, who set the FBS touchdown passes record with 158, generally checks off QBASE’s boxes, but his numbers are not comparable to Daniels’ from 2023.

Shedeur Sanders, another top prospect, has a stronger accuracy rate than Ward but is hindered by minus-0.5 rushing yards per attempt. Jaxson Dart and Tyler Shough are more promising options, with Dart having a better completion percentage and rushing yards per attempt in 2024.

The lower-ranked quarterbacks, including Will Howard, Quinn Ewers, and Jalen Milroe, have significant red flags that may impact their NFL careers. QBASE is negative on Ewers’ chances of succeeding due to his regression as a passer and runner from 2023 to 2024.

Teams looking for later Day 2 picks with upside potential will be interested in Howard, who had an impressive 73% completion percentage in 2024. The 2025 NFL quarterback draft class is full of surprises, and QBASE projections suggest that some teams may find hidden gems in the lower rounds.
