2025 Planet Alignment Showcases Stellar View

The January 2025 planetary alignment, affectionately called a “planet parade,” has captured stargazers’ imaginations as one of the year’s highlight opportunities. With Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune all visible in the evening sky, it was a rare treat for astronomy enthusiasts.

Photographer Rob Abbott took a unique approach to capture this celestial spectacle from his Essex, UK, back garden. Instead of using a telescope or astro camera, he used a wide-angle shot to fit multiple planets into one frame. While Jupiter, Mars, Venus, and Saturn were sharp in his image, Neptune remained elusive.

“I did nothing to the image,” Rob explained, “just converting it from my raw camera photo to JPG with Affinity Photo.” He shared the image because many friends on social media posted AI-generated images showing planets too close together. “I wanted to show what the planetary parade actually looked like and give stargazers some tips on capturing their own images.”
