A rare $25 million pink diamond was stolen from a jeweler in Dubai, and officials say the thieves planned to smuggle it out of the country for over a year.
According to authorities, three suspects posed as wealthy buyers and rented luxury cars and met with the merchant at upscale hotels. They even hired a diamond expert to authenticate the gem, convincing the seller that they were serious about purchasing it.
The thieves then lured the merchant to a villa, where they stole the diamond worth over 20 carats. The jewel was imported from Europe to sell in Dubai, which is known for its luxury shopping.
Police arrested the suspects within eight hours of the heist, thwarting their plan to smuggle the diamond out of the country. The stolen gem has an extremely low chance of being replaced due to its unique purity rating and clarity.
