A rescue operation was successful, with all 260 miners safely brought to the surface after being trapped for nearly a day at a Sibanye-Stillwater gold mine in South Africa. The incident occurred on Thursday when an accident damaged the hoist system, leaving the miners stranded underground. No injuries were reported among the miners. Sibanye-Stillwater CEO Neal Froneman said that safety remained the company’s top priority and operations will resume only after all necessary remedial actions have been implemented.
