3 Cowboys Fight for Spot at Final X

Three wrestlers from the Cowboy RTC will compete for a spot at Final X this weekend in Louisville, Kentucky. Dustin Plott, Dean Hamiti Jr., and Carter Young are vying to join their teammates Joey McKenna, Jax Forrest, and Zahid Valencia on the US World Team.

The first way to earn a spot in Final X is by winning the U.S. Open or the World Team Trials. A win at either event will put a wrestler into a best-of-three series against the winner of the other event (except for 57 kg and 61 kg, where matchups are already set).

Here’s how each cowboy is positioned:

* Carter Young (65 kg): Young finished sixth at the U.S. Open but was pre-seeded ninth at the Trials. If he advances, he’ll face Dean Hamiti Jr.
* Dean Hamiti Jr. (79 kg): Hamiti made it to the U.S. Open final last month but lost to Evan Wick. He’s pre-seeded second at the Trials and will face Minnesota’s Ethan Riddle in the first round.
* Dustin Plott (92 kg): Plott finished fifth at the U.S. Open and was pre-seeded fourth at the Trials. If he advances, he’ll face Patrick Brophy for a chance to wrestle top-seeded Josh Barr.

The winner of each bracket will move on to Final X, where they’ll compete in a best-of-three series against the winner of the other event, aside from 57 kg and 61 kg matchups which are already set.
