Four US soldiers who went missing in Lithuania have been identified as Sgt Jose Duenez, Jr, Sgt Edvin F Franco, Pfc Dante D Taitano and Sgt Troy S Knutson-Collins. The soldiers were all under 30 years old and were posthumously promoted to the rank of staff sergeant.
The four men, who were M1 Abrams tank system maintainers, were on a mission to repair and tow an immobilized tactical vehicle when their vehicle sank into a swamp in Lithuania. Their bodies were discovered after disappearing on March 25.
“We are relieved to have found all our Dogface Soldiers, but it does not make the pain of their loss any less,” said Maj Gen Christopher Norrie, commanding general of the 3rd Infantry Division. “We will continue to care for and support the soldiers’ families and loved ones as we bring them home and honor their memory.”
The soldiers had served in various parts of the world, including Korea, Germany, Poland, and Japan, before their deaths. They had been awarded several medals and decorations for their service.
President, Secretary of Defense and White House officials are praying for the victims’ friends and family during this difficult time.
