The San Francisco 49ers have selected defensive lineman Mykel Williams with the 11th overall pick in the NFL draft. According to General Manager John Lynch, the team had to wait for the right moment to make the move, despite attempting to trade up earlier.
Lynch praised Williams, calling him “very impressive” and highlighting his physical attributes, including his size, speed, and agility. The coach noted that Williams has a high level of toughness and versatility, capable of playing both inside and outside.
Lynch believes Williams’ skillset is well-suited for the 49ers’ culture, citing his ability to rush with power and stop-start quickly. He acknowledged that Williams needs to put together his attributes, but expressed excitement about working with him.
A two-time second-team All-SEC selection at Georgia, Williams has a proven track record of success, recording 21 sacks in 40 games with the Bulldogs program.
