5 Charged with Matthew Perry’s Ketamine Overdose Death

Five individuals have agreed to plead guilty in connection with the ketamine overdose death of actor Matthew Perry. The defendants include Jasveen Sangha, a personal assistant to Perry, and three doctors: Salvador Plasencia, Mark Chavez, and Dr. Mark Chavez.

Jasveen Sangha, 42, has admitted to selling Perry the lethal dose of ketamine in the days leading up to his death on October 23, 2023. She faced charges of distribution of ketamine, conspiracy to distribute ketamine causing death, and maintaining a drug-involved premises. Her sentencing is scheduled for November, with a possible prison sentence of up to 45 years.

Kenneth Iwamasa, Perry’s live-in personal assistant, admitted to acting as his drug messenger and personally giving injections of the substance. He faces charges of conspiracy to distribute ketamine causing death and could receive up to 15 years in prison.

Dr. Salvador Plasencia, a Los Angeles-area doctor, admitted to selling 20 vials of ketamine to Perry in the weeks leading up to his death. He faces four counts of distribution of ketamine and could receive up to 40 years in prison.

Erik Fleming, an acquaintance of Perry’s, delivered 50 vials of Sangha’s ketamine for Perry’s use, including 25 sold for a total of $6,000 to the actor four days before his death. He faces charges of distribution of ketamine resulting in death and could receive up to 25 years in prison.

Dr. Mark Chavez, a San Diego doctor who ran a ketamine clinic, admitted to obtaining ketamine from a wholesale distributor on false pretenses. He faces charges of conspiracy to distribute ketamine and could receive up to 10 years in prison.

All five defendants have reached plea agreements, with the exception of Sangha, who became the final defendant to do so. The sentencing dates for the defendants are set for November, December, and September, respectively.
