Diving into water is also a leading cause of spinal cord injuries globally, with several thousand incidents occurring each year in the US alone. Shallow-water diving accidents can be particularly devastating, causing catastrophic neurological damage to young people at enormous personal cost.
Deep squats can also put pressure on the knee joint and irritate cartilage, worsening pain for those with pre-existing conditions. Warming up before squatting and stretching the legs before and after the exercise can help prevent injury.
Riding a bike without a secure leash can cause loss of control and result in injuries to both the rider and their dog. Not wearing a seatbelt while driving increases the risk of severe spinal injuries in car accidents.
