Your iPad is more powerful than you think. It can replace a laptop and has several hidden features that make it an ideal device for productivity. Here are five cool functions you might have been missing out on.
First, the Files app allows you to merge files into a PDF. This feature saves storage space and makes sharing easier. To use it, select the files you want to merge, tap the More icon, and choose Quick Actions. Then, hit Create PDF.
Second, the iPad lets you quickly open a note with an Apple Pencil gesture. Tap once on the Lock Screen or swipe up from the corner of your screen to create a new Quick Note. You can also move the window around by grabbing the handle at the top.
Third, you can add File folders in the Dock. This feature is available in iPadOS 26 and allows you to boost productivity by accessing frequently used files quickly. To pin a folder to the Dock, go to the Files app, press and hold the folder, select Add to, and tap on Dock.
Fourth, the Files app now displays file details like size, kind, and dates. You can customize this view in iPadOS 26 by going to the View settings and selecting the desired layout. To fit more items on screen, navigate to the View options and switch “Icons and List Size” to Compact.
Lastly, you can open two windows of the same app side by side. This feature is available for most native apps like Safari and Pages. To open an app in two different windows, press and hold the app icon, choose New Window, and long-press again to tap on New Window. You can then resize and move the windows as needed.
