50 Hostages Still Held by Hamas After New Bodies Recovered

Israel has recovered the bodies of three more hostages from Hamas’ October 7 attack in Gaza, bringing the total number of retrieved bodies to 49. The latest victims are Yonatan Samerano, 21, Ofra Keidar, 70, and Shay Levinson, 19.

The Israeli military did not provide details about the operation. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel is committed to returning all remaining hostages, despite launching a new military campaign against Iran.

As of Sunday, 50 hostages remain in Gaza, including four non-Israelis who have been confirmed dead. Among them are two Thais and one Tanzanian, as well as a Nepalese captive whose fate remains unknown. Israel believes 27 of the remaining captives are dead. The exact number of living hostages is also unclear due to “doubts” about their fate, according to Netanyahu.

Hamas’ October 7 attack killed over 1,200 people and took 251 hostages. The conflict has resulted in more than 55,000 Palestinian deaths in Gaza, with the majority being women and children, according to the Health Ministry.
