Microsoft is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and what better way to mark the occasion than with exclusive Windows wallpapers? Three Microsoft designers and fans have created limited-edition designs that reimagine memorable moments from the company’s history.
The first wallpaper features the iconic four-square Windows logo, reimagined in a nostalgic color scheme. Chris Palazzo, creative director, drew inspiration from his childhood, growing up surrounded by floppy discs and dot matrix printers, which sparked his passion for Windows.
Another design takes its cue from Microsoft Mahjong, a game launched in 2012 that inspired designer You Zhang to merge retro influences with modern styles. The result is a rich, detailed wallpaper featuring classic UI elements.
Cascading Solitaire cards are also featured in a stunning “50” design by art director Yulia Makhmudova, who fondly remembers playing classic Windows games on her family computer as a child. Her latest creation combines nostalgia with modern techniques to create visually appealing designs that appeal across generations.
Lastly, yellow tulips are reimagined in a 50-year-old twist, inspired by the iconic Tulips motif from Windows XP. With dark mode welcomed a hazier, more mysterious twin, each design offers a unique glimpse into Microsoft’s 50 years of innovation and creativity.
