A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck Colombia on Sunday, according to the Colombian Geological Service. The quake was recorded at a depth of 10km and felt across much of the country, particularly in areas northeast of Paratebueno, about 116 miles southeast of Bogota. No casualties have been reported so far.
Additional tremors with magnitudes ranging from 4 to 4.6 were detected in the same area minutes later. The National Unit for Disaster Risk Management is assessing the situation in several municipalities. While some people in Bogota experienced the quake, no damage was reported in rural areas. Colombia’s location in the Pacific Ring of Fire makes it prone to seismic and volcanic activity.
