64% of French People Consider Boycott US Products Amidst Trade War

A recent study by market researcher Discurv has found that nearly two-thirds of French people are considering boycotting US products following the introduction of tariffs on steel and aluminum from the EU. The survey, conducted among a sample of 1,000 French people, shows widespread support for shifting consumer habits.

While the numbers vary across sectors, with up to 70% of shoppers willing to switch to French or EU alternatives when buying groceries, similar numbers are seen in the automotive and fast food sectors. However, the response is weaker in e-commerce products, streaming platforms, and social networks where American brands dominate.

The boycott sentiment is not just economic but also a social response to perceived aggression from the US government. Many Europeans feel united against the new regime in Washington, with nearly three-quarters of French people no longer viewing the US as an ally. Plans by the US to slash the number of consulates in France have sparked widespread backlash and protests.

The study highlights the impact of international tensions on consumer behavior, with many French people avoiding American products or seeking alternatives. The situation has led to a significant shift in attitudes towards the US-France relationship, with some calling for symbols like the Statue of Liberty to be returned to France.
