$700M Google Settlement Awaits New York Consumers

New York Attorney General Letitia James is reminding residents about the $700 million Google settlement. This agreement resolves claims that Google had unfair control over app distribution and in-app payments on Android devices. Many consumers who bought apps or made purchases through the Google Play Store between 2016 and 2023 may be eligible for restitution.

Google has already sent out claims notices, which will automatically process payments once the final court approval is received. Payments will be issued via PayPal or Venmo using linked email addresses or phone numbers tied to a consumer’s Google Play account. If there’s no link, consumers can create a new PayPal or Venmo account or update their payment information.

Consumers should note that an opt-out deadline is on February 19, 2026, and a court hearing will take place on April 30, 2026, to consider final approval of the settlement. Attorney General James encourages eligible New Yorkers to claim their restitution by following the instructions carefully.
