71-Year-Old Watercolor Instructor Gives Back Through Legacy Gift

Local watercolor instructor Freddie Manseau will leave behind a lasting legacy after naming Santa Monica College’s Emeritus Program and Community Education in his will. For over three decades, Manseau has taught hundreds of students in the programs, connecting with them deeply through art education tailored primarily to older adults.

Born and raised in Santa Monica, Manseau began teaching at 39 years old in 1989 and never left California. Despite traveling abroad for class exercises, he prefers staying close to home, finding inspiration in local landmarks like the Santa Monica Pier and Palisades Park.

Manseau’s passion for art education has enriched his life, and now he aims to ensure future students and instructors can experience the same joy. His 35-year teaching career has touched thousands of lives, making a lasting impact on the community.
