73% of Americans Fear Price Surge Under Trump Tariffs

A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll found that most Americans expect higher prices on consumer goods due to President Donald Trump’s new tariffs. The three-day poll, which surveyed 1,027 US adults, showed that 73% of respondents believed prices would increase in the next six months.

The majority of respondents, 57%, opposed the new tariffs, including a quarter of Republicans. Only 4% thought prices would fall, while the rest expected no change or did not answer the question.

While some 39% supported the new tariffs, and 52% agreed that other countries have been taking advantage of the US in international trade, nearly half of respondents believed short-term economic pain was worth it to make the US stronger in the long term. The poll results reflect a partisan divide, with Republicans more likely to support the tariffs than Democrats.
