76-Year-Old Man Charged with Assaulting Children at Summer Camp

A 76-year-old man has been remanded in custody after eight children and one adult fell ill at a summer camp in Leicestershire. Jon Ruben, of Ruddington, Nottinghamshire, faces charges related to allegedly lacing sweets with sedatives. The incident occurred on Monday, when the group was taken to hospital as a precaution. All have since been discharged.

Ruben has been charged with three counts of wilful ill treatment of a child, relating to three boys aged 8-11. He will appear at Leicester Crown Court on August 29. An investigation is ongoing by Leicestershire Police and the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) into the force’s handling of the incident.
