800,000 People’s Sensitive Info Exposed in Landmark Admin Data Breach

A massive data breach has exposed the sensitive personal information of over 800,000 people. The breach occurred at Landmark Admin, a third-party administrator for several insurance companies, including American Monumental Life Insurance Company and Continental Mutual Insurance Company.

Landmark Admin first detected suspicious activity on its network on May 13 and immediately shut down its IT systems to prevent further breaches. However, the company’s cybersecurity team found evidence that hackers accessed sensitive files containing personal information such as full names, addresses, dates of birth, social security numbers, tax identification numbers, driver’s license numbers, passport numbers, health insurance policy numbers, and medical information.

The affected individuals may have had varying amounts of their data exposed. Landmark Admin is providing 12 months of free access to identity theft protection services through IDX, which offers up to $1 million in identity theft insurance and credit monitoring services for a year.

To check if your personal data was exposed, look for a data breach notification letter in the mail from Landmark Admin. You can also use online tools such as Troy Hunt’s Have I Been Pwned or Surfshark’s data leak checker to see if your information has been compromised on the dark web. Monitor all your online accounts closely, and consider joining a class action lawsuit being investigated by Murphy Law Firm.

The incident highlights the need for stricter security measures to protect sensitive information, particularly in industries that handle personal data. Landmark Admin’s efforts to provide affected individuals with identity theft protection services are a step in the right direction.
