Trump Signals Opposition to Ukraine’s Attacks on Russian Soil

US President-elect Donald Trump has signaled opposition to some of Ukraine’s recent attacks on Russian soil, including the assassination of a top general using a scooter bomb. Trump’s envoy to Ukraine, retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, stated that Ukraine’s actions were outside the rules of war and would not be a setback for peace talks.

Kellogg said, “There are rules of warfare and certain things you just kind of don’t do.” He criticized the killing of Russian general Igor Kirillov in Moscow, saying it was not smart to target flag officers in their hometowns. Russia has arrested a suspect in connection with the attack.

Trump has also expressed disapproval of Ukraine’s decision to make long-range strikes on Russia using US-supplied missiles, calling it “stupid.” He claims that this decision prompted North Korea to send troops to fight alongside Russia, although intelligence agencies dispute this claim.

President-elect Trump has repeatedly stated he would end the war in Ukraine but has not publicly stated how he would achieve it. Plans under discussion include establishing a demilitarized zone and requiring Ukraine not to join NATO. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy remains opposed to ceding territory to Russia or making any promises about joining NATO.
