Houston-based lawyer Tony Buzbee has filed a lawsuit against Roc Nation, Jay-Z’s entertainment empire, accusing them of illegally soliciting former clients to sue him. The defendants listed in the lawsuit include law firm MJ Legal, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, Roc Nation itself, attorney Marcy Croft, and investigator Jessica Santiago.
Buzbee claims that these individuals offered his former clients money to come forward with allegations against him, using tactics such as burner phones, fake names, and flashing badges. The lawsuit alleges that the defendants were caught on audiotape, admitting to orchestrating the effort.
This is not Buzbee’s first lawsuit filed against him. Two other suits have been brought against him in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, alleging he took advantage of his clients and failed to provide them with their settlement money.
Buzbee denied these claims, calling them “patently frivolous.” However, Roc Nation’s statement described Buzbee’s lawsuit as a “pathetic attempt to distract and deflect attention” from his own mounting legal woes.
The matter is now under investigation by the District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Attorney General’s Office.
