Two Russian cosmonauts, Alexey Ovchinin and Ivan Vagner, will embark on a six-hour spacewalk outside the International Space Station (ISS) on Thursday. As part of the Soyuz MS-26 mission, they will conduct routine maintenance and upgrades to the station’s systems.
Ovchinin, wearing a red-striped spacesuit, will be making his second spacewalk, while Vagner, donning a blue-striped suit, will be outside the ISS for the first time. The duo will venture out of the Poisk module to install an experiment package monitoring celestial x-ray sources and new electrical connector patch panels.
During their spacewalk, they will also remove several older experiments for disposal and relocate a control panel for the European robotic arm. Roscosmos cosmonaut Alexsandr Gorbunov will operate the arm from inside the station.
NASA’s live coverage of the spacewalk begins at 9:45 a.m. EST and is available to watch on NASA+.
