Nintendo Switch 2 Leak Reveals Backward Compatibility and Design Changes

A Redditor claiming to be in possession of a final retail unit of the Nintendo Switch 2 has shared images and insights about the console’s design, sparking hope that the leak might be genuine. According to NextHandheld, the successor to the original Switch will retain backward compatibility with its library, and will be formally announced by March 31st, 2025.

Key features revealed include a dock logo with a “2” attached to the original Switch design, two USB-A ports, one HDMI port, one Ethernet port, and one USB-C port for power. However, what’s more intriguing is the potential magnetic controller design, which may feature drift-resistant joysticks.

The images shared by NextHandheld show a joystick rail region without any rails, instead featuring a hollow area with a 13-pin connector that can be inserted into the Joy-Con. This could mean that the new controllers would snap into place automatically. While Nintendo has not officially confirmed these details, the leak suggests that significant design changes are on the horizon for the Switch’s successor.
