Volkswagen has reached a deal with the IG Metall trade union that will prevent plant closures in Germany and avoid immediate compulsory redundancies. The agreement will cut more than 35,000 jobs across the country by 2030 as part of €15 billion cost-cutting measures. Factory closures had been considered, but the union’s efforts have secured jobs and investment for VW.
