Apple is preparing to release a new iPhone update, iOS 17.6.1, according to reports. This may be a surprise to some users who thought the previous update, iOS 17.6, would be the last before the launch of iOS 18 next month. The reliable leaker MacRumors confirms that Apple is internally testing the new update.
The main changes in iOS 17.6.1 are likely to be security fixes and bug patches. This includes addressing issues already being exploited in real-life attacks, ensuring iPhone users stay up-to-date with the latest patches before upgrading to iOS 18. Apple will continue to provide security updates for iOS 17 after the launch of iOS 18, but it’s recommended to upgrade to iOS 18 for a more comprehensive list of fixes.
The new update may also fix network issues that some users have experienced since updating to iOS 17.6.
There is a possibility that this will be the last iPhone upgrade before Apple launches iOS 18 in September, unless a major security hole appears that requires an emergency patch.
