Honda Motor Company and Nissan Motor Corporation are exploring the possibility of producing vehicles in each other’s factories as part of their strategic partnership. This move comes after the two automakers forged an alliance in March to cooperate on electric vehicle development.
A merger between Honda and Nissan would create the world’s third-largest auto group by vehicle sales, with the companies selling around 7.4 million vehicles annually. The potential partnership could also see Honda supplying hybrid vehicles to Nissan.
The move is seen as a response to concerns over Donald Trump’s policies, which may impact manufacturing in the automotive industry. Kyodo News reported that Honda may use Nissan’s factory in Britain, expanding its production capabilities beyond engines and motorcycles in Europe.
Both companies declined to comment on the report, with Nissan citing that the details were not based on an official announcement. The situation highlights the ongoing efforts by automakers to strengthen their partnerships and adapt to changing market conditions.
