Tiger Woods Achieves Historic 59 with Son Charlie in PNC Championship Lead

Tiger Woods made history on Saturday at the PNC Championship, carding a blistering 13-under round of 59 alongside his son Charlie. The Team Woods duo led the standings after one day, ahead of several other major champions and their family members.

In a scramble format, Tiger and Charlie scored 13 birdies, bogey-free, to put them atop the leaderboard in a three-way tie for the lead. The father-son team showed remarkable form, with Tiger birdied seven of the nine holes on the back nine.

Tiger revealed that his public return to golf comes after successful back surgery in September. He has been recovering from serious leg injuries sustained in a car accident in 2021 and made only 13 starts on the PGA Tour over the past four seasons.

Tiger acknowledged that he can’t compete at his best level due to physical limitations, but he’s focused on supporting Charlie as he competes alongside him. The 15-time major winner shared advice with his son, telling him “Just be you” and encouraging him to carve his own path in the sport.

Despite some pressure from competing under the Woods name, Tiger said Charlie is handling it well. When asked about his son’s performance, Tiger replied that he thinks Charlie is doing a great job.

The tournament concludes on Sunday after another 18-hole round, and Tiger and Charlie will look to build on their lead and make history once again.
