Disneyland Resort is transforming into a winter wonderland, and the sweetest treat of all is the iconic Mickey gingerbread cookie. From mid-November to early January, this festive flavor takes over the park, with fans going to great lengths to get their hands on the coveted cookies.
The cookies are a masterpiece, made from hundreds of pounds of cake, icing, and candy, with chocolate drizzle and sprinkles adorning Mickey’s face. Fans can’t get enough of them, with some even traveling from out-of-state to Disneyland for a taste.
Tiffany Calderon, a Disneyland enthusiast, travels three times a year with her family and always makes it a point to buy 20 cookies to freeze and enjoy throughout the year. “It feels like home,” she says, describing the experience of snuggling up with a cookie while watching Christmas movies.
The cookies’ popularity has led to some creative sales strategies, including limiting mobile orders to five per transaction and selling them over-the-counter at certain locations. Despite these efforts, fans will often place multiple orders to ensure they get their hands on as many cookies as possible.
Mickey gingerbread cookies have become a beloved holiday tradition for some fans, with Jennifer Walker bringing back 24 cookies to her family’s gravesite and gifting them to coworkers who share the same tradition.
The cookies’ success has also inspired Disneyland to introduce a new type of fresh-from-the-oven cookie to their menu. With flavors like gingerbread and pumpkin-shaped gingerbread cookies available, fans can indulge in the sweet treats throughout the year.
For fans, Mickey gingerbread cookies are more than just a treat – they’re a symbol of the holiday season. As Karlos Siqueiros, a food and beverage product optimization manager at Disneyland, notes, “At one point, we had three houses going… We depleted the supply of gingerbread west of the Mississippi.” The iconic cookie has become an integral part of Disney’s holiday magic, with fans eagerly anticipating their arrival each year.
