Samsung, Texas Instruments Get $6 Billion in US Chip Funding

The US Commerce Department has awarded Samsung and Texas Instruments over $6 billion in funding under the CHIPS Incentives Program.

Samsung will receive $4.745 billion, which is part of its planned $37 billion investment in Texas chip facilities. The company originally sought $6.4 billion but revised its plans to optimize efficiency. This award will support the construction of two new “leading-edge logic fabs” and an R&D fab in Taylor, Texas, as well as expanding its Austin plant.

Texas Instruments will receive $1.61 billion for projects including constructing two wafer fabs in Texas and a third in Utah. The Commerce Department also awarded smaller grants to companies like Amkor Technology, which tests and packages chips for major brands. These funding awards were announced earlier this year and come ahead of the January 20th transition to a new US presidency under Donald Trump, who has criticized the CHIPS Act.
