“Saturday Night Live” star Colin Jost took jabs at his wife Scarlett Johansson’s expense on the show, using his usual method to read jokes written by co-anchor Michael Che in a “black voice.” This year, however, the twist was that Johansson watched from backstage as her husband delivered the jokes about her.
The annual joke swap is a tradition on “SNL,” where Jost and Che take turns reciting jokes they wrote for each other. In years past, Jost has joked about his wife’s acting prowess, but this year he focused on Johansson’s age.
“Y’all know my girl Kamala Harris held a town hall talking about [how] she still supports the idea of slavery reparations,” Jost said in his “black voice.” The joke received mixed reactions from the audience.
The segment continued with jokes about Cosmo, their son, who is black. Johansson was visibly uncomfortable as her husband took shots at her age and identity.
This isn’t the first year that Johansson has been forced to endure this type of humor. Last year, she joked that watching the segment had left her blacking out for days. “It’s so bad,” she said. “I feel like every year it gets worse.”
Jost and Johansson have been married since 2020 after reconnecting on a 2017 episode of the show.
