PM Narendra Modi’s Historic Kuwait Visit Focuses on Trade Diversification and Diplomacy

PM Narendra Modi has begun his historic two-day visit to Kuwait, marking the first time an Indian leader has visited the Gulf nation in 43 years since Indira Gandhi. The Prime Minister met with the Indian diaspora, praised their contributions, and focused on strengthening bilateral ties through non-oil trade diversification, cultural diplomacy, and labor welfare.

During his visit, PM Modi emphasized the need for diversification into non-oil trade, including pharmaceuticals, health, technology, digital innovation, and textiles. He also discussed elevating bilateral ties in areas such as defense, trade, investment, and energy with Kuwait’s Amir.

The Prime Minister attended a gathering of the Indian diaspora at a special ‘Hala Modi’ event, where he praised their contributions to global growth. He referred to the one million Indians in Kuwait, who make up the largest expatriate community in the nation, as a “mini-Hindustan” and thanked the leadership for their welfare policies.

The visit also marked an informal meeting between PM Modi and leaders from other countries, setting the stage for more formal talks on bilateral ties and global issues. The Prime Minister highlighted India’s leadership role in advocating the concerns of the Global South, citing its reliability as a development partner and leader on climate action.
