Social Security beneficiaries across the US will receive an extra check in December, benefiting millions of people, especially those in Social Security group 4. The payment is scheduled for Monday, December 24.
This check is not part of the 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) that will be implemented in 2025. Instead, it’s an advance payment, intended to help beneficiaries cover expenses during the holiday season.
Group 4 beneficiaries, who started receiving their benefit after May 1997 and were born between January 21 and March 31, are eligible for this extra check. The payment amount is based on individual earnings history and time worked.
While this check won’t include the COLA 2025, it will provide essential assistance in meeting month-to-month expenses, especially during special times like Christmas and New Year’s.
